Obituary

Grace C. Skelley, 87, of Alexis, formerly from Toulon, died at 9 am Monday, December 30, 2002, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Galesburg. She was born July 20, 1915, in Alexis to John H. and Mary E. Murphy Skelley. Surviving is one sister, Sister Dympna Skelley of Portsmouth, Ohio, a sister with the Third Order of Saint Francis in Rochester, Minnesota. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from Knox College in 1937 and with a master’s degree in Spanish from Case Western University in Cleveland. She taught Spanish at Toulon High School for many years. She also taught at Corpus Christi High School and Carl Sandburg College, both in Galesburg, Illinois. She was a lifetime member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Alexis, where she had been the organist since childhood. A funeral mass was held at 11 am Thursday at her church. The Revs. Robert Lee, Ron Enderlin, and Michael Menner officiated. Visitation was held from 5 to 7 pm at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, with recitation of rosary and a prayer service at 5:30 pm. Memorials may be made to her church.
